Aaron Ramsey admits he is “gutted” for Arsenal team-mate Danny Welbeck after the England forward was ruled out of Euro 2016 with a knee injury. Welbeck has been ruled out for nine months after undergoing surgery on a right knee he sustained during Sundays 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.Ramsey admits the 25-year-old, who only returned in February after a ten-month layoff due to an injury on his other knee, has been left devastated by his latest injury setback. Arsenals Danny Welbeck lays injured during the Premier League match against Manchester City I have spoken to him and obviously he is very disappointed and gutted, Ramsey told Sky Sports News HQ.He was in good shape, good form and he had a great opportunity to show what he could do for England in the summer.Im gutted for him as well but I am sure he will back from it stronger and I hope he has a speedy recovery.Following Manchester Uniteds 3-2 loss to West Ham on Tuesday, Arsenal head into their final game of the season against Aston Villa guaranteed to be playing Champions League football. The 22-year-old threw his helmet to the ground and it bounced up and hit home plate umpire Bill Miller on the right hip after Lawrie was called out on strikes for the second out. Torres calmly stroked a 51st-minute spot kick down the middle with goalkeeper Romel Quinonez diving right to convert a penalty earned by Javi Martinez. Spain controlled play at the Sanchez Pizjuan but found it hard to convert against a well-organized Bolivian team before Iniesta charged forward to curl around Quinonez in the 84th to seal victory. The festive period is officially over.  Back to work and back to reality for the masses.  While most of us were obliging in the gluttony of the holiday season, the Barclays Premier League was in full swing.  The festive season is the busiest time of the year and often times determines where things go from here.  Some take a step forward.  Others take a step back.  Heres what you missed while you were eating, drinking and being merry: the winners and losers of the festive period. Winners Chelsea - Thorough.  Calculated.  Successful.  The season has been an example of process for Jose Mourinho and Chelsea.  Step by step, a steady build and team execution.  The holiday season was a clinic for Chelsea.  After conceding seven goals in three matches against Premier League lesser likes, Chelsea put on a defensive clinic over the last fortnight, shutting out Arsenal, Swansea City and Southampton.  The Blues also picked up a win against tricky Liverpool, capping off a momentum-building period.  Mourinhos side doesnt have the natural team goal-scoring prowess of Manchester City.  But Mourinhos approach and the players implementation put Chelsea in prime position for a genuine title push. Through squad rotation and proper substitutions, Chelsea is a team on the rise. Emmanuel Adebayor - A managerial change and new tactics can do wonders.  Adebayor was cast a misfit with his Spurs career predicted done and dusted under Andre Villas-Boas, but Tim Sherwood and a preferred 4-4-2 has given the Togolese opportunity to shine.  Adebayor has rewarded his new manager with three goals in four games over the festive period, helping Spurs pick up 10 points out of a possible 12.  Its an incredible turnaround for the 29-year-old, who had only one previous appearance on the league season.  The movement has been top and so has the finishing.  Four starts in four games, Adebayor returning to form gives goals to a Spurs team in desperate need. Tom Huddlestone - The feel good story of the holidays.  The Hull City midfielder refused to get a haircut until he broke his scoring drought.  The curly, afro-like mess had entered Marouane Fellaini territory.  Two and a half years and 54 games since Huddlestone last scored, on his 27th birthday, the goal finally came.  A 67th minute belter against Fulham ended the streak, allowing Huddlestone to chop off the hair he grew to despise. The haircut started on the field with a razor to the mop as part of the celebration.  The notoriety of the hair and ensuing goal ended up raising thousands of dollars for Cancer Research UK.  Huddlestone has revitalized his career with a standout campaign thus far.  And now has a sharp, new do for good measure. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - It was a bold move to take over a team owned by Vincent Tan.  But the baby-faced tactician did just that and immediately impressed in his introductory press conference.  He seems a man wise beyond his managerial years and was clearly ready for the move to the Premier League.  His likeable demeanor and dedication to become a top manager suggest a long and prosperous career ahead.  In like fashion to his playing days, Cardiff City played spoiler in his managerial debut, coming from behind with late dramatics to defeat Newcastle at St. Jamess Park in the FA Cup.  Solskjaer provides the stability Cardiff needs.  And Solskjaer will likewise take advantage of the opportunity in South Wales as a proving ground for future, more prestigious jobs.  The decision to join Cardiff was a calculated one.  In Solskjaer, we trust. Manchester City - No Sergio Aguero, no problem.  City had to make the winners list as the only team with a perfect 12 points in four holiday matches.  The only blemish, an FA Cup away draw at Blackburn.  It wasnt whom they beat, but how they won over the holidays that was most impressive.  Pulling away late with quality ball movement in a 4-2 win at Fulham, and coming from behind to beat Liverpool were matches destined for dropped points where three points were salvaged.  Its a trademark of champions to win when not at your best.  City is certainly looking very much the part.  The next months schedule is tricky.  But with the return of Aguero near and just one point back of league leaders Arsenal, City are the clear odds-on favourite for the title. Wojciech Szczesny - The Arsenal number one posted three clean sheets and conceded just one goal in four matches.  Questions about goalkeeping stability have been the dominant narrative at the Emirates for years on end.  Szczesnys standout season has silenced the calls for reinforcements. Ross Barkley - Barkley for England.  A stunning match-winning free kick against Swansea to open the period was a testament to the 20-year olds special ability.  Barkley has been a driving force all season, playing beyond his years.  Everton picked up points in every game he started over the holidays, and the Englishman capped off the festivities with a goal and an assist in a 4-0 FA Cup thrashing of QPR.  Gossip Pages - The January transfer window is open and the silly season is upon us.  Proceed with caution with your transfer rumours du jour. Losers Manchester United - Three league wins to start the festive calendar and all seemed to be going in the right direction.  2014 however has started in disaster.  A 2-1 home loss to Spurs ended any slim hope of title coontention and another embarrassment at Old Trafford to Swansea in the FA Cup showed how far the mighty have fallen.ddddddddddddnbsp; United have lost the fear factor, most surprisingly at home, with four league losses and just 12 goals in 10 matches.  The short-term transition is a monumental struggle for David Moyes.  You can see its taking its toll.  The team has holes. Most disconcerting is the negative narrative and unclear directive of the manager, not leaving much room for goodwill or patience.  Whether it be pessimism towards transfer window activity or a lack of confidence, Moyes continues to trip over his own words, making matters worse.  And his actions arent much better, raising valid questions whether he is suitable to lead the club.  And club officials saying United can financially cope with not qualifying for the Champions League misses the plot. Excuse mongering and flaky reassurances merely pander to stock market confidence rather than passionate supporters whose expectation is to win.  Its unfortunate a transition within the squad came at the same time as a transition in manager.  Perhaps Sir Alex Ferguson saw this coming.  Regardless, from player acquisition to player performance to the manager, it all has to be better. Juan Mata - The two-time Chelsea player of the year has endured a frustrating time under Mourinho.  Just 11 starts thus far and no league goals, the Spaniard let his emotions publicly boil over, showing dissent towards his manager after being substituted off against Southampton.  Chelsea publicly says Mata is not for sale.  Unfortunately for the player, he is being kept and under-utilized until Mourinho can get players he prefers at the club in the summer.  Mata is not a Mourinho player and he will remain on the outside looking in.  The less he plays, the more Matas World Cup chances are damaged.  Theo Walcott - Having just returned from a long-term injury mid-December, Walcott has gone down again.  Unbeknownst to the extent of his injury, Walcott mocked Spurs supporters being stretchered off in Arsenals 2-0 FA Cup win.  2-0 Walcott showed all to see with his fingers as he was carried off.  More importantly, the true score as knee injury -1, Walcott – 0.  All kidding aside, Walcott ruptured the ACL in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season and the World Cup.  Its a more significant loss for Arsenal than England.  The Gunners actually have a chance at silverware.  Walcotts a versatile player for Arsene Wenger, scoring five goals and four assists in limited action this campaign.  Fortunate for Wenger, he has quality options in the attacking midfield positions and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is back training. Surely, Arsenal will need to add another attacking player with the ability to play with his back to goal before the end of the month. Sam Allardyce - The West Ham manager received the dreaded vote of confidence from club officials after an embarrassing 5-0 FA Cup loss to Nottingham Forest.  In fairness, seven senior players were injured, Kevin Nolan suspended, and a Capital One Cup semi-final tilt lay ahead Wednesday against Manchester City.  Allardyce played an inexperienced, ill-equipped team and they were punished.  Regardless, the result, the festive period was awful for Allardyce with his team picking up a mere point in four matches, and his team now sitting 19th, very much in a relegation battle.  With a lack of goal scoring and a leaky backline, the Hammers are in trouble and Allardyce is a top candidate to be the seventh managerial casualty of the season. Norwich City - The Canaries were almost as poor as West Ham, picking up just two points in four matches.  Three games were against fellow relegation fodder Sunderland, Fulham and Crystal Palace.  Those were must-win games for a team with mid-table aspirations.  Scoring two goals in those games is appalling.  Norwich has been a massive disappointment on the season after spending considerably in the summer.   Divers - Whether it be Adnan Januzaj or Oscar, many of the best, young players in the league are deservedly earning the label of diver.  Attempts to con match officials continues to take priority over self-respect.  And managers are failing to get through to their players. This has to change.  Managers continue to wax poetic about how they deal with these issues internally.  But very little is done and nothing changes as the problem spreads.  Mourinho is the biggest hypocrite, saying divers are a disgrace yet failing to acknowledge when his players do so.  With faulty leadership as such, nothing will change.  And the game is worse off because of it. Fulham Defending - Conceding 12 in four matches, including six at Hull, thanks for coming out. Mark Clattenburg - The match official has been drawn into more character damaging accusations, this time for inappropriate comments made towards Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana.  The FA has cleared Clattenburg, but Southampton is calling for the official to not be appointed for their matches until the investigation is complete.  Chelsea accused Clattenburg of making racist remarks last season.  Although cleared that time as well, Clattenburg continues to be drawn into the news for all the wrong reasons.  Missed calls and controversial decisions have also hurt the reputation of a true, up-and-coming referee. @WheelerTSNgareth.wheeler@bellmedia.ca cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

CANTON, Ohio -- Jon Bon Jovi is hoping hes written a hit with Buffalo Bills fans in a bid to stem concerns of whether his prospective ownership group plans to buy and potentially relocate the franchise to Toronto. In a letter published by the Buffalo News on Sunday, Bon Jovi wrote that its his ownership groups objective "to make the Bills successful in Buffalo." The letter, titled "Why Were Bidding on the Buffalo Bills," marks the first time the New Jersey rocker has publicly discussed his plans regarding the franchise. The team is for sale after Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson died in March. "There has been a lot of conjecture, so we think its important to clarify our intentions to the fans of the team and people of Buffalo," Bon Jovi wrote. "I know how much the Bills mean to the people of this region. So I want you to hear this from me: Im not risking it all to let you down. If we are given the chance to be the next owners of the Buffalo Bills, I promise you that we will bring the same passion that you do every Sunday, every day." Calling it his intention to "carry on Ralph Wilsons legacy" in Buffalo, Bon Jovi said his group is committed to working with state and local officials and the business community to identify a new stadium site in the region. At no point in the seven-paragraph letter does Bon Jovi name his two partners or mention they are both from Toronto. His group is rounded out by Larry Tanenbaum, chairman of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, and the Rogers family which controls Rogers Communications. The Toronto groups intentions have been met with skepticism in Buffalo. Two weeks ago, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz told The Associated Press that he has no doubts regarding the groups long-term intentions to move the team to Toronto. Under their lease that runs through the 2022, the Bills are essentially locked into playing at Ralph Wilson Stadium through the 2019 season. There is a one-time exception that would allow them to break the agreement for just under $28.4 million in 2020. The deal also includes a strict non-relocation clause in which the Bills -- including Wilsons estate -- are not allowed to negotiate with anyone, who to their kknowledge, has an intention of relocating the team during the term of the lease.dddddddddddd The Bills Fan Alliance, a group of fans and business leaders, questioned Bon Jovis intentions in a statement released Sunday. "While we appreciate his sentiment, its worth noting that nowhere in his letter does he write or directly state that he will not move the Bills from Buffalo," wrote the Alliances directors, Matt Sabuda, Brian Cinelli and Steve Brady. The group urged Bon Jovi to back up his statements with actions by signing a binding pre-purchase agreement to waive the one-year buyout clause. "Anything short of formal action taken on their part will be viewed as nothing more than rhetoric," the Alliance directors wrote. Fans have also organized a ban on Bon Jovi music being played in Buffalo. The group has printed T-shirts and posters with the motto: "Bon Jovi Free Zone." Numerous fans were spotted wearing the shirts and carrying placards at the Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremonies on Saturday night, when former Bills receiver Andre Reed was among the seven inductees. Reed is a member of the Fan Alliance. He drew cheers during his induction speech by saying: "Oh yeah, and the Bills will stay in Buffalo, too." NHL Buffalo Sabres owner Terry and Kim Pegula and New York real estate mogul Donald Trump are also in the running to buy the Bills. Prospective groups are set to begin making formal bids to buy the team in the coming weeks. A potential owner could be identified by as early as Labor Day. The Bills most recently were valued by Forbes at $870 million but are expected to sell for at least $1 billion, partly because NFL teams rarely go on the market. In his letter, Bon Jovi noted his interest in buying an NFL franchise grew when he founded the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League. He sold his interests in the team a few years ago. "My family and I are prepared to make this life-changing commitment to be part of the Bills," Bon Jovi wrote. "This is not a hobby or an acquisition. Building a winner on and off the field will be job one, and I intend to spend as much time on the ground in Buffalo as needed to accomplish that goal." cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

TORONTO -- In the end, Roy Halladay went back to his major-league roots. Halladay signed a one-day contract with the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday that allowed the veteran right-hander to retire as a member of team with which he broke into the majors and spent the bulk of his distinguished 16-year career. Halladay made the announcement at a news conference in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., site of the baseball meetings. "As most people know, I was very lucky to have a lot of people in the organization really develop and help me become the player I was able to become," Halladay said at a press conference . "And (with) the organization and the support of the organization, from the front office to the coaches to the players, it really turned my career around and it made a big difference in my career and thats why Im very fortunate to retire as a Blue Jay." Halladay spent his final four major-league seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies and went to great lengths to express his sincere gratitude to that organization and its fans. However, he also said he wouldnt have been able to get a shot with a World Series contender if not for the Blue Jays. "I want the Phillies organization to know, I want the fans to know how much I enjoyed my time there. How much they meant to me, how much they meant to my family and what a major part of my career they were," he said. "But to me the biggest thing was had I not been fortunate enough to come up with the Blue Jays and have the people around me that I did and have the people develop me that I did I wouldve never had that chance." Halladay was drafted 17th overall by Toronto in 1995 and made his major-league debut with an innocuous but telling two games three years later as a September call-up. His first game as a Blue Jay was unremarkable. In a five-inning start against the then Tampa Bay Devil Rays he gave up three runs and a homer but earned a 7-5 win. A week later, Halladay went the distance against Detroit. His stat line reads like what Toronto fans would come to expect: nine innings, eight strikeouts, no walks and just run, a homer in the ninth inning of a 2-1 victory. The dominant starter, however, wouldnt emerge until after several ugly seasons that involved an important trip to the minors. A serviceable season in 99 led to a disastrous 2000 when he finished with a 10.64 earned-run average in just 67 innings pitched. That was the turning point for Halladay. Instead of giving up on him, Toronto sent him to single-A Dunedin in 01 to rebuild his pitching mechanics. He was promoted through double- and triple-A until returning to the Blue Jays on July 2. His first game back was ugly -- six runs allowed over two-plus innings of relief against Boston. But Toronto kept him in the majors and he started every game the rest of the season, finishing with a complete-game shutout against Cleveland for a respectable 3.16 ERA. "There was a period of time I didnt know what was going to happen," Halladay said. "Where I probably wasnt as positive as I could be about what my future was going to be. "But I think through the support of my wife and people in the organization I was able to find people that really helped me see the mental side of it and see the positives and thats really where I felt my career changed." Halladay never looked back. In 2003 he went 19-7 in 02 with 2.93 ERA in 239.1 innings while earning the first of eight all-star selections. A year later he won his first Cy Young with a spectacular 22-7 record and 3.25 ERA. Shoulder soreness landed Halladay on the disabled list twice in the 04 campaign but he earned another all-star nod the following year. Known for superb conditioning and a relentless work ethic, Halladay pitched no less than 220 innings every season between 2006-11. But he was unable to lead Toronto into the playoffs. With the Blue Jays languishing in the AL East and Halladays contract set to expire in 2010, Toronto shipped him to Philadelphia in December 2009 in the first significant move by GM Alex Anthopoulos. Toronto sent Halladay to the Phillies for minor-league prospects Travis dArnaud, Kyle Drabek and Michael Taylor. "Toronto was hard for me, as much as I loved it there I felt like I needed to make the decision to give myself the chance to get to the playoffs," Halladay said. "Thankfully the fans understood that and were very supportive. "Hopefully they get a chance to experience that also because its a tremendous feeling." Toronto hasnt reached the baseball playoffs since winning its second straight World Series title in 93. Pitching with a contender certainly agreed with Halladay in 2010. He threw a perfect game May 29 against the then Florida Marlins. Then, in his first-ever playoff outing, he became the second pitcher ever to throw a no-hitter in the post-season, doing so against Cincinnati. The Phillies lost to San Francisco in the NLCS that season. His last shot at an elusive World Series title ended when Philadelphia was beaten by St. Louis in the 2011 NLCS, as the Phillies failed to make the playoffs the past two seasons. Halladay amassed a career record of 203-105 in 416 games, 390 being starts, and an ERA of 3.38. While many pitchers retire due to recurring shoulder problems, Halladay said hes walking away from the game at a time when his shoulders are feeling strong. But the veteran pitcher admits hes had to battle through back issues the last two seasons that have affected his pitching mechanics. "I had to change some things, do some things differently to be able to throw the ball and thats led to some shoulder issues," Halladay said. "But the big thing has really been the back. "Speaking with doctors, they feel like at this point if I can step away and take some of that high-level pressure off it, it will really hopefully allow me to do some regular things and help out with the kids teams. "I want to be active and continue to do the things I enjoy doing. The biggest thing is Im trying to avoid surgery." Halladay said hes content walking away from baseball not having won a World Series. "Im very fortunate I had a chance to get to the playoffs and experience that atmosphere," he said. "Ive always wanted to win a World Series and hopefully down the road I can be a part of it in a different aspect. "Im more comfortable knowing that I came a little bit short than to never had got that shot. I feel fortunate that I tried to absorb every minute of it that I could. I really dont have any regrets." Halladay also wants to be remembered for more than just wins or losses. "For me it was just not quitting," he said. "I definitely had some bumps in the road and even when things were good, youre going to have some bad days. "I didnt ever feel like when I took the mound I gave anything less than my best effort . . . and Im really proud that I feel like I was able to do that." Authentic Hakeem Olajuwon Jersey . WASHINGTON -- The Los Angeles Lakers are playing the waiting for Kobe game -- trying to stay respectable without one of the NBAs all-time greats. Los Angeles had its three-game winning streak broken, 116-111 by the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night, while Bryant, who signed a two-year contract extension on Monday, watched on television from the locker room. The Lakers star pledged his loyalty to the only team hes ever played for in his first public comments about the extension, saying before the game that Los Angeles willingness to pay him a reported $48.5 million for the next two seasons makes him want to "run through a wall" for the team. He wont play in Brooklyn on Wednesday or at Detroit on Friday as he concludes his rehab from surgery on his ruptured Achilles tendon. His teammates nearly pulled out another win against a team with two hot players, John Wall, who had 31 points and Nene, who scored a career-high 30 on 13-for-22 shooting from the field. "We have to learn how to win with this team. Its just put together and we dont have one thing that we go to all the time, but well get it straight," Los Angeles coach Mike DAntoni said. "Theyre playing hard, and theyre together and we should have won tonight." The Lakers are 7-8 but just 1-5 on the road. Wall, who was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday, has scored more than 30 points in three straight games for the first time in his career. The point guard scored 11 points in the final 4:40 to help seal the win. Washington coach Randy Wittman isnt surprised or especially pleased by Walls success in his fourth year. "No, because hes going to play better (Wednesday)," Wittman said. Washington plays at Milwaukee on Wednesday. Wall and Nene became the first pair of Wizards to score 30 or more since Dec. 16, 2009, when Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison combined to score 63 points at Sacramento. Nene had never scored more than 28 points in his 12-year NBA career. "I feel like wine. You get old. You get better," the 31-year-old Brazilian said. It didnt necessarily confound Wittman that Nene had never hit 30. "Hes not a guy who looks to score every time he touches the ball. There are some players in this league that do that," Wittman said. "I could see where he hasnt, but Im glad he did it tonight." Martell Webster added 20 points with four 3-pointers. Jordan Farmar led the Lakers with 22 and Pau Gasol had 17. The Wizards took a 75-73 lead on Nenes three-point play with 2:37 left in the third quarter and led 82-77 after three. Websters consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth quarter gave Washington an 88-80 lead with 10:22 to play. Webster added another 3-pointer to give the Wizards their largest lead -- 96-87 with 7:38 to play. Thanks to Walls hot play, Washington held on. Gasols three-point play with 24.5 seconds left cut the lead to 113-111, but Wall hit three final free throws. Bryant is back practicing, but his return wont come until at least Dec. 6, when the Lakers play at Sacramento. "We dont think about it much at all. We have a job to do now, the guys who are in the lineup. Everybodys focused on their responsibility and I think weve done pretty good so far," Farmar said. "Were still learning and still trying to figure each other out. Its going to be a work in progress even when he does come back, trying to figure out everybodys role." Washington was without guard Bradley Beal, who will be out for at least two weeks with a stress injury to his right foot. Beal was replaced in the starting lineup by Trevor Ariza, who missed the last five games with a strained right hamstring. NOTES: Los Angeles C Chris Kaman missed his third straight game with a sore back. ... Washington F Chris Singleton was active for the first time all season. He missed the first 13 games with a stress fracture in his left foot. Singleton played a minute and didnt score. . Wizards F Otto Porter, who has yet to play this season due to a right hip injury, participated in his first practice on Monday and is nearing a return, Wittman said. Cardinals Mike Mayers Jersey . Jesus Navas bookended yet another huge home win for City by scoring after 14 seconds and again in second-half stoppage time, with Sergio Aguero also netting in each half to add to an own goal by Sandro and a brilliant strike by Alvaro Negredo. Day, a semifinalist last year, led from the start in a 3-and-2 victory over Rickie Fowler. Dubuisson became the fourth player to reach the championship match on his debut in the 15 years after this World Golf Championship began in 1999. He had to take down Ernie Els in the most compelling match of the morning on Dove Mountain. Els, trying to reach the final for the first time, went 3 up through four holes and was on the verge of stretching his lead until the 23-year-old Frenchman halved the hole with a tough par putt at No. 7. Dubuisson won four of the next five holes to take the lead, only for the 44-year-old Els to battle back. Els made a 20-foot birdie putt on the 16th to square the match, and they headed to the 18th hole. Dubuisson hit to the back fringe, while Els came up short with a 6-iron into the breeze and found a bunker. He blasted out to just outside 12 feet, and narrowly missed the par putt to extend the match. Dubuisson said he didnt sleep well Saturday night and didnt feel well when he arrived at the golf course, perhaps because "I realized I was in the semifinal of the World Golf Championship against Ernie Els." "Im a big fan of Ernie, so I have always been watching him winning majors," he said. ";I knew I had to play my best golf.dddddddddddd Its what I did." Dubuisson is the first player since Geoff Ogilvy in 2006 to reach the final match in his first time playing this event. Ogilvy went on to win the title. It was a big blow to Els, who badly pulled an 8-iron far left of the flag on the 17th, losing a chance to put pressure on Dubuisson, and then came up short on the 18th. "Its tough to take," said the four-time major champion. Day won the opening hole with a birdie and never looked back, though Fowler didnt give in. Day was 3 up through 11 holes when he missed a 6-foot par putt on the 12th and Fowler made birdie on the 13th to cut the deficit to one hole. The turning point came at the 15th, when Fowler missed far enough left with his drive that he had no shot at getting close. He hit a flop shot strong that went over the green, hit another strong pitch and missed the par putt. Fowler had a chance to go 1 down on the 16th with a tee shot into 6 feet. But he missed the birdie putt, and then missed the 4-footer coming back for par to end the match. "The start of the season, thats all Im trying to do is win," said Day, with only one PGA Tour victory in his career. "I felt like I had a really good chance at maybe having a shot at winning this week and Im definitely in the final now and Im really looking for to it." cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

On this weeks TSNFC podcast we spent a long time discussing the handball decision that effectively ended Vancouver Whitecaps season. Much has been said and written about whether or not World Cup referee Mark Geiger made the right call to penalize Kendall Waston in last weeks playoff match at Dallas, with many differing opinions on the matter. There doesnt seem to be a consensus, although Geigers boss - referees chief Peter Walton - said it was the correct decision and a standard call. As a veteran Premier League referee who now runs the Professional Referees Organization in North America, Waltons opinion should be respected, but the controversy surrounding the decision - and many other handball decisions we see all over the world each week - could easily be avoided if there were a change to the law. In my view, there are two things wrong with the current law. Firstly, the punishment doesnt fairly reflect the size of the crime. Secondly, there is too much room for interpretation of the referee which makes consistency of decisions almost impossible. Here are the main points of the current FIFA Law: Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into consideration: ? the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand) ? the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball) ? the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an infringement Deliberate - done consciously and intentionally I dont think Kendall Waston made a conscious and intentional decision to handle the ball inside the penalty area in the last 10 minutes of a playoff match. In my mind it was a momentary lapse in concentration from the towering defender rather than a deliberate act. In relation to this law, it seems deliberate can also mean a player didnt react quickly enough to move his hand/arm out of the way of the ball. But the fact the law allows such ambiguity means officials are in the spotlight more than necessary whether or not they get the decision right. There must be a better way. Although video replays will certainly assist officials decision making in other areas, in the instance of Waston it wouldnt have made much difference because even with review, the decision would have been made depending on the officials interpretation of the law. One suggestion I have seen is to award a penalty anytime the ball hits a hand or arm inside the area whether it is intentional or not. A clear rule - it doesnt matter how it happens, if the ball strikes the hand, it is a penalty. Theres very little room for argument and interpretation there, but I think it would lead to far too many penalties and also an excessive number of game changing moments. Again, the punishment wouldnt match the offence. New Law So how about this. In order to provide clarity, I would be in favour of a rule change along the following lines: Anytime a player makes contact with the ball inside the penalty area with his hand or arm, an indirect free kick will be given. There is no room for interpretation - if it hits the arm or hand whether deliberate or not, it is an indirect free kick. There is one exception. If a player handles the ball to prevent a goal or an obvious goal scoring opportunity, a penalty is given. With this rule applied, Kendall Wastons handball would have been penalized with an indirect free kick, still giving the opposing team the benefit of a set piece close to goal but eliminating the need for a referee to award a penalty for an incident that was not going to end in a goal. For me, that far better reflects the size of the infringement and also would remove much of the debate surrounding penalty kicks awarded for handball. Im not na?ve enough to expect that changing the law would eliminate all problems. Im sure in some instances there would still be controversy and debate surrounding what is or isnt an obvious goal scoring opportunity. But I believe it would drastically decrease the amount of times a game is decided by a referees decision and therefore lead to more post-game talk about players instead of officiating – and that can only be a good thing. Authentic Pascal Laberge Jersey . Kelly, who has led the Eagles to 10 wins in each of his first two seasons, took over full control of the player personnel department and led the search for a new personnel executive. Marynowitz was part of the search team led by Lurie that brought Kelly to Philadelphia in 2013. Prior to joining the Eagles, Marynowitz worked at the University of Alabama under Nick Saban as the schools director of player personnel from 2008-11. The Crimson Tide won two BCS national championships during his time there. This is a great opportunity for Ed and I think Philadelphia made an excellent decision in terms of expanding his role and responsibilities in the organization, said Saban. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

MILWAUKEE -- Lance Lynn brought the Brewers fast start to a halt. Mixing a fastball that topped 95 mph with his effective slider, the St. Louis Cardinals right-hander struck out 11 and allowed three hits over seven innings in a 4-0 victory Monday night to snap Milwaukees nine-game winning streak. Lynn (3-0) frustrated the Brewers all night. He left Carlos Gomez twisting in the batters box on swings and misses. He made Jonathan Lucroy, a .357 hitter, whiff badly on a fastball low in the zone in the second and froze Scooter Gennett on a heater outside. "Location. He was making good pitches early on and it looked like he had a little more life," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. Jhonny Peralta hit a solo shot in the second off Brewers starter Matt Garza, and Jon Jay had a three-run homer to the right field corner in the sixth. Reliever Carlos Martinez tossed two scoreless innings to finish off the surprising Brewers, who still have the majors best record at 10-3. Manager Ron Roenicke said he didnt think Garza (0-2) had his best stuff, yet Garza kept pace with Lynn until running into trouble in the sixth. Allen Craig reached on a fielders choice with two outs and Peralta singled to set up Jays homer off a hanging breaking ball. Until then, the Brewers seemed as though they were close to getting out of the jam after throwing out a runner at home and retiring a runner trying to advance to third for the second out. "I felt we had momentum after we had the tag at home ... and then (Jays homer) was a backbreaker," Garza said. "But were fine. Well come back and well start a new (streak) tomorrow." Lynn cooled off a Brewers team that was off to its best start since opening the 1987 season with 13 straight wins. Milwaukees best hope to score came in the fifth after No. 8 hitter Logan Schafer doubled to right with two outs to put runners at second and third. But that brought Garza, a career .094 hitter, to the plate and he struck out on three pitches. Otherwise, the Brewers didnt get another runner past second. Lynn boasted a career 2.53 ERA in 10 games against the Brewers coming in, and his mastery of Milwaukee continued. "He throws the nice breaking ball and he usually keeps the ball down well," Roenicke said. "Every time Ive seen the guy, hes tough." With Lynn in control, about the only other drama provided by the Cardinals was when leadoff hitter Matt Carpenter was ejected in the fifth after apparently saying something to umpire Bob Davidson following a called third strike. "Matt didnt like what he saw; the umpire didnt like Matts opinion of what he saw. He said something to Matt, Matt returned something -- there was no foul language -- but the umpire had heard enough," Matheny said. "We were barking the majority of the game. "Hopefully theres no follow-up on that. Checking out the pitch, it wasnt a pitch he should be swinging at. Thats frustrating. You cant take emotions out of this game." Garza allowed nine hits and four runs while striking out six in seven innings. Rookie reliever Wei-Chung Wang, a Rule 5 pick, pitched a scoreless ninth in his big league debut. "He didnt have any issues and felt good afterward, which was the main thing," Matheny said. "Hes on the right track to joining us here soon." ... Bumgarner scattered four hits over seven innings, Hunter Pence hit a two-run homer and the Giants ended their longest losing streak in three years with a 5-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. "It was a big win for us," Bumgarner said. "I feel like that you have to think you have to be there every time out really, whether youre winning or losing." San Francisco had lost six straight, its longest skid since dropping seven in a row from June 26-July 1, 2010. The World Series champions had dropped seven straight road games. Colorado was impressed with his offspeed pitches. "He kept us off guard with his command of that pitch throughout the game," Colorado manager Walt Weiss said. "It is what you expect from on the better pitchers in the league." Colorados Michael Cuddyer singled in the eighth off SSandy Rosario, extending his hitting streak to 27 games.dddddddddddd The streak is the longest in Rockies history and in the majors this season. He has reached base safely in a franchise-record 45 straight games. "I got a slider for the hit, and got it just under the glove of the shortstop," Cuddyer said. Drew Pomeranz (0-1), making his 2013 big league debut after being recalled from Triple A Colorado Springs, allowed four runs, seven hits and four walks in 4 1-3 innings. Buster Posey put the Giants ahead with a solo homer in the third. Rose, who played preseason games at Indiana and against Memphis in St. Louis, missed last season with the injury. He sat out Saturdays game against Washington in Rio de Janeiro because of soreness. "Oh my God, a lot of people," a nervous Scherbak said as he approached a phalanx of media backstage at Wells Fargo Center after going 26th overall to the Canadiens in the first round of the NHL draft Friday. "Oh my God." Within five minutes, the Saskatoon Blades winger was over his nerves and had English, French and Russian reporters eating out of his hand. What do you know about Montreal, he was asked. "Merci, bonjour," he offered. And what about the Habs? "I know Montreal wins a lot of Stanley Cups." Asked how much he weighed, Scherbak said he was 190 pounds. "But I havent eaten for two days, Im so nervous," he said to laughter. "Im sitting eating my fingers." The Russian, either six foot or 6-2 depending on who you believe, scored 28 goals and added 50 assists in his first year with the Blades to lead all WHL rookies. He also was named the Blades most valuable player and rookie of the year. "I think Im a good playmaker," he said. Habs GM Marc Bergevin marvelled at the Russians poise. "I saw somebody with a lot of personality. Hes got an appeal to him. Hes got confidence. Montreals a different market and from what weve seen so far we feel we could handle that." The Canadiens also have players who can mentor the young Russian in Alexei Emelin, Andrei Markov and Alex Galchenyuk. Asked how close Scherbak is to making the NHL, Bergevin gave the stock answer. "Thats going to be up to him," he said. As for his playing skills, Bergevin pointed to his speed, skating, vision and playmaking ability. "For us, hes a top talent," he said. "For whatever reason he was at 26 so we jumped on him." The GM acknowledged that he would have looked to move down the draft had the Russian been picked earlier. Scherbak said he came to Canada because he wanted to fulfil his dream and that of his family to play in the NHL. "I dont think about the KHL," he added. The language barrier wasnt easy. At first, he said all he could do was "just show." Then he learneed "easy words like cat, dog, like food, eat, sleep.dddddddddddd" A year on, he can chat away. "Thats pretty good," said one reporter. "I think so too," smiled Scherbak. "Maybe I learn French right now," he added. Reporters suddenly felt old when, asked who he looked up to in the NHL, Scherbak cited 21-year-old Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Earlier in the day, Montreal coach Michel Therrien acknowledged he has replayed the Eastern Conference final loss in his head. "Of course," he said at the draft. "if you look at the big picture, yes were happy about the progress we made. But at the same time, when youre two wins away from reaching the Stanley Cup final, yes youve got to be disappointed." The Canadiens have already made some decisions. Bergevin says free agents Thomas Vanek, defenceman Douglas Murray and tough guy George Parros wont be back. Talks continue with three other free agents: captain Brian Gionta, and defencemen Mike Weaver and Francis Bouillon. Markov and Therrien have both signed new deals. "Thats good news for us," Therrien said of Markov staying in the fold. "Hes an important player, hes a veteran. Hes got such an important role, so were all pleased hes back with us." Therrien agreed to a four-year contract extension earlier this month. The 50-year-old is in his second stint at the Habs helm. His record over the last two seasons is 75-42-13. Finding an assistant coach to replace Gerard Gallant, now head coach of the Florida Panthers, is also on the Habs to-do list. Defenceman P.K. Subbans contract is also a major issue. Bergevin says there has already been a meeting with Subbans agent. Asked about young goalie Dustin Tokarskis immediate future, Therrien said simply: "Well see at the (training) camp." Tokarski acquitted himself well in filling in for the injured Carey Price against the Rangers. Therrien made a point of praising backup Peter Budaj, who was ignored in favour of Tokarski. "Peter is one of the best backups in the NHL. So I have a lot of respect for Peter Budaj." cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

Happs turn to play in the ongoing game of hot potato, better known as the competition to determine who will comprise the back end of the Blue Jays starting rotation. When the figurative music stops on March 31, Opening Day, general manager Alex Anthopoulos, manager John Gibbons and pitching coach Pete Walker will make whats becoming an increasingly difficult decision thanks to consistently mediocre to subpar performances by the candidates. Walker said before Wednesdays 11-6 win over the Phillies that the game was a "big start" for Happ. He needed to pitch in the strike zone. Happ needed to force Philadephias hitters to make contact. He was scheduled to pitch four or five innings with a pitch count of 70, give or take a few. Turns out Happ threw 71 pitches but did so in only 2 2/3 innings. Only 34 of those pitches were strikes. He laboured, to be generous, allowing three runs on three hits and four walks. Afterward, Happ saw his afternoon in a positive light. "It was good," he said. "I felt strong out there. Maybe a little too good but everything was good. Health was good." The health to which Happ refers is his back, an ailment which has kept him out of Grapefruit League action since he was pulled in the first inning of a March 3 start against the Twins. Happ intends to focus on developing his rhythm, interrupted due to injury, next time out. Hes looking to more consistently harness the new arm slot he employed in the final month of last season. Happ watched video of his start and noticed hed reverted to an over-the-top angle. Its all in the name of better efficiency. "Thats the same story for everybody," said Gibbons. "To be successful in the big leagues youve got to throw a lot of strikes. Youve got to throw that strike one. You fall behind guys, it turns everything in the hitters favour and just the opposite for the pitcher. Hes capable of doing that." Two weeks ago, the 31-year-old was bothered by Anthopoulos suggestion that his spot in the starting rotation was in question. Happ isnt dwelling on it now, saying he cant worry about what he cant control. Its apparent he will be on the team, as will Esmil Rogers and Todd Redmond, his competitors for a final rotation job. The question is who will be the starter and which two will work out of a bullpen which is expected to feature eight relievers. Its believed Happ is in the drivers seat, partly because Rogers doesnt throw enough of his repertoire for strikes and Redmond tends to struggle once the oppositions lineup turns over. Remember, too, that Happ is owed $5.2 million this year on an extension signed the day Ricky Romero was cut from camp last spring. The idea of having $12.7 million on the books for Happ and Romero, with neither in the starting rotation, cant be a pleasant one. "I dont feel like Im far," said Happ. "You guys, youre going to take that outing for what it was and it doesnt look pretty. Pitch-wise, like I said, Im up to 70 and next time be 85-90 and still feel strong thatll be a good thing. Im close." "Im looking forward to his next start," said Gibbons. &qquot;Thats all Ive got to say.dddddddddddd" The game of hot potato continues on Thursday when the Blue Jays visit the Phillies. Another back end of the rotation candidate gets the start. Over to you, Esmil Rogers. ROMERO AND STROMAN REASSIGNED Ricky Romero and Marcus Stroman shipped out to minor league camp on Wednesday morning. Both were outsiders, at best, to crack the opening day roster but both impressed at times during Grapefruit League play. "We just feel they both need more work," said manager John Gibbons. "As far as Ricky, hes moving in the right direction. We really like what he did this camp. Just go down there and polish it up. Stro, hes kind of the odd man out. He had trouble throwing strikes (Tuesday). Hes got to do that. They both need more work." After two down years the bar wasnt set high for Romero. With that as a consideration, its fair to say he exceeded expectations. He had two positive outings before he cratered against the Tigers on Tuesday, reverting to his wild ways. "He showed us enough in the previous two outings before (Tuesday) that you know what, hey, its coming," said Gibbons. "Its a long road and you never really know whether a guy is going to make it back or not but he was starting to show the signs of it." Stroman showed flashes of the pitcher the Blue Jays believe he will become but he was inconsistent all spring, culminating with an ugly performance on Tuesday. The Tigers knocked him around for seven runs on five hits in one-third of an inning. "We brought Stroman in, he pitched in Double-A for us and he had a legitimate shot (at making the club,") said Gibbons. "We dont think hes quite ready. Hes not polished yet so hes got to go down there and work on some things." The Jays still need to add two to a rotation which features R.A. Dickey, Brandon Morrow and Mark Buehrle. While the pitching coach offers praise to Drew Hutchison, Pete Walker wont yet guarantee him a spot. "Not ready to say that," said Walker. "Obviously, were extremely pleased with the way hes thrown the ball. Hes certainly shown hes capable of getting major league hitters out. His velocity, his strength, his bounce back, right now, after outings has been fantastic. Hes shown poise on the mound. Hes done everything you need to do to earn a spot, theres no question, but were just in a position right now, were sorting through some things to make sure we make the right decision." SANCHEZ AROUND FOR EXPERIENCE Aaron Sanchez is getting plenty of opportunity to pitch in Grapefruit League games, often the back end of a starters piggyback. Hes thrown as many as four innings in a game and is scheduled to work in relief of Todd Redmond against the Rays on Friday. "He wont make the team," said manager John Gibbons. "We want to keep him around, pitching in some of these games for the experience factor." Sanchez, 21, is considered the Jays top pitching prospect. He threw 109 2/3 innings combined with High-A Dunedin and in the Arizona Fall League last season. Its expected he will begin the year at Double-A New Hampshire. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

MONCTON, N.B. - The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada scored three times in the final two minutes of the third period to defeat the host Moncton Wildcats 4-1 on Monday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff action. Danick Martel broke a 1-1 deadlock at 18:31 of the third for the Armada, who now lead the best-of-seven first-round match up 2-1, while Nikita Jevpalovs and Ryan Tesink added two more in the last minute of regulation time. Philippe Sanche opened the scoring for Blainville-Boisbriand at 7:16 of the first period while Etienne Marcoux made 17 saves for the win. David Krejci Jersey . -- The Florida Gators are first yet again this season. Gerry Cheevers Jersey . There, I saw a teenaged boy with tears in his eyes, being consoled by strength and conditioning coach Randy Lee.MIAMI -- A punchless offence in the final two games kept the Miami Dolphins out of the post-season, and theyll have a new play-caller in 2014. Offensive co-ordinator Mike Sherman was fired Monday, the first change by the team since the holiday collapse. Coach Joe Philbin defended Sherman the day after the season, but owner Stephen Ross was expected to demand some sort of shake-up following the dismal finish. Sherman joined the Dolphins when Philbin was hired two years ago, and the two have been close for more than 30 years. But this season Shermans unit ranked 27th in the NFL in yards, allowed a franchise-record 58 sacks and scored once in its final 24 possessions. The Dolphins (8-8) would have made the playoffs if they had won one of their final two games against the Bills and Jets. Instead, they were beaten by a combined score of 39-7. Other changes in Philbins staff are possible, and offensive line coach Jim Turners status remains in doubt. The line was the focus of a bullying scandal that mushroomed at midseason and left the Dolphins without two starters, and the NFL has yet to release a report on its investigation into the case. Philbin thanked Sherman for his contributions in a brief statement announcing the firing. "Mike has been a mentor to me throughout my coaching career, dating back to 1979," Philbin said. "He is a mann of great integrity, dedicated to his family, his team, his players and his profession.dddddddddddd On behalf of the entire Miami Dolphins organization I want to wish Mike and his family the very best in the future." Sherman has a six-year relationship with quarterback Ryan Tannehill dating to their days at Texas A&M, where Sherman was Tannehills head coach. Tannehill won the Dolphins starting job in training camp as a rookie in 2012 and showed considerable progress this year until the final two games, when he played poorly. "Coach Sherman and I have a great relationship," Tannehill said in a statement released by the Dolphins. "He has made significant contributions to the Dolphin organization, and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to play for him for the last six years. I learned so much about football and life in that time, and for that I am forever grateful." While Tannehill threw for 3,913 yards and 24 scores this season, Shermans play-calling came into question because of the teams pass-run imbalance. Miami passed the ball 65 per cent of the time, third-highest in the NFL, and had games where they rushed for 2, 14, 20 and 22 yards. The Dolphins have missed the playoffs five years in a row and havent won a post-season game since 2000. NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Titans linebacker Avery Williamson had a big game against a quarterback hes been watching for years, sacking Ben Roethlisberger not once, but twice. Now the rookie is working to make sure ego doesnt take his attention off the job at hand.Im happy with the way Ive been playing, Williamson said. Some plays I left on the field, but its never going to be a perfect game. Just got to continue forward and progress each week. Im definitely excited about my future, and I feel like its going to keep getting better. So do the Titans with Williamson looking to be a steal as a fifth-round draft pick out of Kentucky. His success has been a bit overshadowed with three other rookies starting on offence. The linebacker from Milan, Tennessee, grew up a fan of the Titans, and he has played in every game this season. Williamson now has started the last six games, and he already ranks third on the team with 70 tackles. He easily is in position to top Alterraun Verners 103 tackles in 2010 for most tackles by a rookie since 1999.Williamson also is tied for second with three sacks, and he has six quarterback pressures along with seven tackles for loss.Hes getting better and better every week, coach Ken Whisenhunt said. I think his recognition of what hes seen on the other side of the ball, hes got a lot confidence in how hes playing. He doesnt make a lot of mistakes, which is unusual for a young player like that. Hes grown up quickly. Its been a great asset to have him, especially after Zach got hurt earlier this year. The Titans lost Zach Brown a few plays into the season and tried to replace him with Zaviar Gooden. Despite not starting until the fifth game, Williamson currently is tied for third among NFL rookies in sacks and is second recovering two fumbles.Speed and hard work are Williamsons biggest strengths. Film study is one of the habits that helped the 6-foot-1, 236-pound linebacker as a team captain at Kentucky last season. Whisenhunt said the Titans really liked Williamsons maturity after four years in college and were impressed with him during pre-draft interviews.Obviously, he loves football, Whisenhunt said. I dont think you can ever anticipate that he would progress the way he did. You hope so, but its been a real pleasant surprise. The Titans now trust the rookie enough that Williamson wears the helmet with the communication device hearing from coaches to get his defensive teammates lined up each play. But the Titans visit Philadelphia (7-3) on Sunday, and the Eagles high-paced offence means defences have to line up much more quickly than usual. So the Titans plan to help the rookie out by signalling in schemes from the sideline. Were not putting it all on him, Titans defensive co-ordinator Ray Horton said. Well make a couple adjustments how we call the game so everybody will be responsible, not just him.Thats fine with Williamson who just wants to help the team he grew up rooting for win. Authentic Seth Curry Jersey .com) - Willie Cauley-Stein and Karl-Anthony Towns each scored 12 points in the top-ranked Kentucky Wildcats 70-55 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide. When Chris Phillips suits up for his next game, he will move into a tie with Jean Beliveau on the NHLs all-time games played list. Beliveau played his entire career with the Montreal Canadiens and up to this point, Phillips has played all 1,124 games of his career with the Ottawa Senators. But there is no guarantee that Phillips will be in the Ottawa lineup on Tuesday night in Edmonton, as his future with the team is up in the air. Phillips has reportedly been offered a one-year contract extension by the Senators, but its believed the 35-year-old defenseman is looking for a multi-year deal. If the two sides cannot come to an agreement on an extension in the next 48 hours, there is a very realistic chance that Phillips will be moved by Wednesdays 3pm ET trade deadline. And while Phillips has been able to control his fate in the past, he no longer has the luxury of holding the hammer with a no-trade clause this time around – which means general manager Bryan Murray can move him to any team in the NHL that is willing to offer suitable compensation. If Phillips is moved by the trade deadline, he will join the likes of Daniel Alfredsson and Jarome Iginla as players who left Canadian cities after spending the majority of their careers with one team. A couple of years ago it seemed unfathomable that all three of these players would pack up and leave. But playing an entire career in one Canadian city has been virtually impossible since the NHL expanded in 1967. That ended the Original Six era when players like Beliveau and the Richard brothers played with only one Canadian franchise for the duration of their careers. Since that time, only one player – Bob Gainey – played more than 1,000 games and spent his entire career with one Canadian team. As it stands right now, Phillips and Gainey are the only two members in that exclusive club – although that could change in the next couple of days. (Other players like Thomas Steen and Stan Smyl spent their entire career in one Canadian city, but did not meet the 1,000-game threshold) At the same time, its a lot easier to find players who fit these criteria in American cities. Whereas the Canadian list of players includes just Gainey and Phillips (for now), the American list includes the following 14 players: Nicklas Lidstrom – DetroitSteve Yzerman – DetroitMartin Brodeur – New JerseyKen Daneyko – New JerseyGilbert Perreault – BuffaloDenis Potvin – NY IslandersBobby Clarke – PhiladelphiaPatrik Elias – New JerseyDave Taylor – Los AngelesCraig Ramsay – BuffaloWayne Cashman – BostonPatrick Marleau – San JoseTomas Holmstrom – DetroitMilan Hejduk - Colorado So just by comparing the two lists, it seems significantly more difficult to spend yourr entire career in one Canadian city – even when you adjust for the fact there are roughly three times as many American teams in the NHL.dddddddddddd This dates back almost 30 years, when players from the Montreal Canadiens dynasty moved along to other teams to close out their careers. Guy Lafleur, Larry Robinson, Serge Savard, Guy Lapointe and Steve Shutt all joined other teams after the Canadiens stopped winning Stanley Cups. And all of the pieces of the Edmonton Oilers dynasty found new homes as well, with most of them ending up with the New York Rangers at some point in their careers. This trend also includes players who didnt play for winning teams, but were considered to be mainstays with their Canadian teams. Borje Salming played the first 1,099 games of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but in a prelude to what Alfredsson would later do, he signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Red Wings to finish off his career. Even popular players who were deemed to be the "face of the franchise" by the fans and media in the 1990s were moved along, like Trevor Linden, Wendel Clark and Ryan Smyth. All three players eventually returned to their original teams to close out their careers, but were unable to stay for several years during their prime. And the recent examples of Alfredsson and Iginla highlight the challenges of staying with one Canadian team in this current climate. The Sedin twins recently signed long-term extensions that should keep them in Vancouver for the rest of their careers, but dont be surprised if they leave to chase a Stanley Cup at some point if the Canucks dont have a legitimate chance at winning in two or three years. There are certainly more challenges that make playing in a Canadian market extremely difficult. In some cases, the players feel suffocated by a rabid media and fan base and yearn for a chance to spend a couple of seasons in a fresh place. In other instances, the players fail to live up to the expectations of a contract and are forced to a new destination because public pressure becomes intolerable. Often a player just wants a chance to win a Stanley Cup and doing so has been impossible for Canadian teams since 1993. And we are all well aware of how Canadian cities have colder climates and higher taxes that make American destinations seem more appealing at times. Whatever the reasons – and most need to be judged on a case-by-case basis – it appears virtually impossible to spend your entire career in one Canadian city. If Phillips signs an extension in Ottawa, he will join Bob Gainey on this list of post-expansion players to spend their entire careers with one Canadian team and play more than 1,000 games. But as history shows, its more likely that Phillips will be moving on to a different destination to close out his career. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

Tony Parker is by far the youngest of the San Antonio Spurs Big Three, a fact that could have complicated things going forward as Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili get closer to retirement. As they are wont to do, the Spurs made things real easy. The Spurs signed Parker to a multi-year contract extension on Friday, ensuring that the six-time All-Star point guard will be in the fold whether Duncan and Ginobili are able to continue their careers or not. The Spurs did not disclose the deal, but Yahoo! Sports first reported that it was a three-year extension worth $43.3 million that will kick in in 2015. "So happy," Parker told the San Antonio Express-News. "Spurs for life!" Parker has spent all of his 13 NBA seasons with the Spurs, blossoming from an erratic 19-year-old from France into one of the elite point guards in the game. He has helped the Spurs win four of their five NBA titles, the last one coming in June with a dominating victory over the defending champion Miami Heat. Parker turned 32 in May, but has shown little sign of slowing down. He averaged 16.7 points and 5.7 assists in 29 minutes per game last season and still thrives by changing speeds to keep defenders off balance. The lightning quickness that got him noticed by the Spurs before he was drafted in 2002 is still there, and he can still blow by defenders at the top of the key to get into the paint for a floater or stop on a dime for one of the best pull-up jumpers in the league. Duncan will turn 39 next season and Ginobili just turned 38, seemingly putting their careers much closer to the end than Parkers. But coach Gregg Popovich has done a masterful job of managing minutes and keeping the wear and tear on them to a minimum, so there really is no telling how long this championship-drenched trio can stick together. Duncan opted in to the final year of his deal earlier this summer and Ginobili made the difficult decision to pull out of the FIBA World Cup so he could rest a stress fracture in his leg and be ready for training camp next season. Popovich signed a contract extension and the Spurs brought back Boris Diaw, Patty Mills and Matt Bonner to try to do just about the only thing this remarkably enduring franchise has yet to do -- repeat as champions. Parker was set to enter next season on the final year of his contract at the bargain price of $12.5 million. But taking less money to keep the core together is something the Spurs stars have been doing for years, so its no surprise that the Spurs were able to retain Parker with a quiet negotiation and easy agreement on a deal that will take him through 2017-18. With all the work the Spurs have done this off-season, there still is one big thing that needs to be addressed. NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard is eligible for an extension on his rookie deal, and Popovich has already dubbed him the player who will take over the franchise when Duncan finally decides to retire. There is plenty of time to address that issue. The Spurs have until Oct. 31 to sign Leonard to a new deal. The Nuggets traded starting center Timofey Mozgov to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for two protected first-round picks. Mozgov averaged 8.5 ppg and 7.8 rpg this season. Denver has won three straight with two coming at home and one on the road. Most recently, the Nuggets defeated the Orlando Magic, 93-90, at home on Wednesday. Ty Lawson scored 23 points in the victory. Arron Afflalo added 17 points and six rebounds for the Nuggets, who have won six in a row at home against Orlando. Nate Robinson and Wilson Chandler tallied 13 and 12 points, respectively, while J.J. Hickson contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds. Rookie center Jusuf Nurkic ended with eight points and two blocks for the Nuggets in his first NBA start. The Nuggets nearly blew a 10-point lead with less than six minutes to go. The Magic had a chance to tie following misses by Lawson and Robinson, but Evan Fourniers last-second 3-pointer fell short. A win is a win is a win, but I was not happy with the fourth quarter and the way we finished the game, at all, said Nuggets coach Brian Shaw.dddddddddddd The Kings have won two of their last three, including a home blowout of the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. Sacramento clobbered OKC, 104-83, and has won two straight at home. Rudy Gay had 28 points and nine rebounds to lead the Kings. Darren Collison made a career-high five 3-pointers en route to 24 points for the Kings, who snapped a 12-game losing streak against Oklahoma City. DeMarcus Cousins contributed 23 points and 15 rebounds, but did pick up his fourth technical foul of the season. I thought tonight was the first night in a long time where we really committed on the defensive end, Collison said. I dont know if it was the stage of the game playing a team like OKC, but I thought our urgency was really high tonight. The Kings held the Thunder to 32.6 percent shooting from the field and just 30 percent from long range. Sacramento forced 24 turnovers, which it turned into 26 points. The Kings have won both meetings this season against the Nuggets and have taken three straight and four of the last five. The Winnipeg Goldeyes first no-hitter in franchise history was a team effort Wednesday night. Five Goldeyes (13-7) relievers combined to throw a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries in the second game of a doubleheader at Sioux Falls Stadium before 3,268 spectators. "I am going to be smiling for the rest of the night, thats for sure," Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea said on the Jewel 101 post-game show. "They filled up the strike zone. They had a couple walks, but after that they got quick outs." Winnipeg also won the first game 7-1 to sweep the doubleheader and move back into a tie for first place in the North Division. Gabe Aguilar pitched 2 1/3 innings to start the game before handing the ball over to Kaohi Downing, who went 2 2/3 innings hitless innings. From there, Taylor Sewitt pitched a third of an inning, Brendan Lafferty got the last two outs of the sixth inning and first out of the seventh inning and Kyle Bellamy was on the bump for the final two outs of the game. Winnipeg scored a run in the first inning when Tyler Kuhn singled and eventually scored on a Luis Alen double. The Goldeyes added two more runs an inning later, as Casey Haerther and Kuhn had RBI singles. From there, Winnipegs unhittable pitching staff took over. "We just kept on giving the ball to the next guy and they just kept on getting the job done," Vermilyea said. One of the unsung heroes in the no-no was catcher Luis Alen, who caught 14 innings between the two games."Thats tough to do as a catcher," Vermilyea said. "Thats a long day behind the plate. "From the first game, we had a good game play against (Sioux Falls) and he kept throwing down the right fingers."Downing picked up the win, while Bellamy earned the save. Sioux Falls starter Joe Bircher posted a quality start, but suffered the loss. In the first game, Goldeyes starting pitcher Chris Salamida pitched a complete game, allowing just one run in seven innings of work to get the win. It was the first complete game by a Goldeyes pitcher this season and kept the bullpen fresh for the second game. "Sal set (the no-hitter) up by going seven innings and pitching the entire game," said Vermilyea, who pitched a perfect game in Double-A during his playing career. "It allowed us to have our full bullpen." Winnipeg scored once in the first and fourth, twice in the fifth and broke the game open with three runs in the sixth, as Luis Alen singled in a pair of runs and Donnie Webb followed with an RBI single. Webb led Winnipeg at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Salamidas record improved to 2-2 with the win, while Kyle Vazquez took the loss. The Goldeyes will be out to sweep the four-game series tomorrow night. Southpaw Nick Hernandez (0-0, 7.90) will start for Winnipeg against former Goldeye Ben Moore (1-0, 3.62). Diamondbacks A. J. MUNICH, Germany -- Germany captain Philipp Lahm and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will be fit in time for the World Cup despite sustaining injuries in the German Cup final, Bayern Munich said Monday. Neuer finished the match with a right-shoulder injury. Lahm was substituted after injuring his left ankle. Both were examined Monday by Bayerns doctor. Bayern said their World Cup was not in jeopardy and that they will travel with the national team to the training camp in northern Italy on Wednesday. Lahm will not be able to practice for up to seven days because of a bruise. Neuer has to wear a brace and will be treated in the camp. His response to treatment will determine how long he will be unable to train. The statement made no mention of midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, who missed Saturdays final with a knee injury, but previous reports said he was not seriously hurt. Bayern beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in extra time to complete its second successive domestic double. Germany played an impressive qualifying campaign but injuries to some key players have dampened the optimism ahead of the World Cup. Striker Mario Gomez has been left out of the squad and veteran Miroslav Klose has been sidelined frequently this season with various injuries. Important midfielder Sami Khedira has yet to play a full match since returning for Real Madrid following six months out with a knee injury. Coach Joachim Loew is taking 27 players to the training camp. He will cut four players and announce the final squad after the June 1 friendly against Cameroon. Germany also plays Armenia on June 6, one day before travelling to Brazil. The Germans open their World Cup campaign against Portugal on June 16 in Salvador, then play Ghana on June 21 in Fortaleza and conclude the group stage against the United States on June 26 against the United States in Recife. Jamies number grades given are out of five, with five being the best mark. Carey Price, Montreal (3) - On the second Lightning goal, he overplayed the post and on the third, it went through his body. He was good when it mattered with good saves on Steven Stamkos and Ondrej Palat and, most importantly, the only number that matters is four wins, which Price was instrumental in delivering Anders Lindback, Tampa Bay (1) - He got the gate halfway through the game and Lindback certainly did not have a lot of help as the Lightning was grossly outplayed, but he got beat twice on straight shots that were stoppable and had angle issues on them. Lindback looked erratic and overactive. Kristers Gudlevskis, Tampa Bay (3) - He came in and was very good, especially on Brendan Gallagher and Rene Bourque and he helped change the tide for Tampa. The game-winning goal went through his body and was a squeaker. It was tough finish for a real nice performance. Tuukka Rask, Boston (5) -  It was a solid effort. Rask wasnt tested too much, but he made big saves on Johan Franzen and Gustav Nyqvist in close in the second period and a monster save on Justin Abdelkader in the 3rd. Rask is playing so poised and positionally sound right now that he makes it look easy in the net. Jimmy Howard, Detroit (3) - The Dougie Hamilton goal was a shortside, stoppable puck. Howard didnt get a lot of help on the second Boston ggoal.dddddddddddd He fought to find pucks through lots of traffic on the penalty kill and made big saves on Brad Marchand and Jarome Iginla. Ray Emery, Philadelphia (2) - Emery was not overly sharp this game. He gave up a bad rebound on the Derek Stepan goal and he was beat clean on the Dan Girardi goal from far out. He made a couple of big saves on Rick Nash and Martin St. Louis in close in the second period, but was lifted after the Dan Carcillo goal to give Steve Mason some minutes. Steve Mason, Philadelphia (N/A) Henrik Lundqvist, Rangers (4) He had no chance on the Mark Streit goal in what was a back door play. He fought hard in the crease tonight as Philly really crashed the net on him and made nice saves on Jake Voracek and Scott Hartnell.  Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles (3) - It was a seeing-eye shot that he didnt see on Patrick Marleaus OT winner. Quick let in three weird goals tonight. He over-pushed through the screen on the first goal and had no chance on the second goal because he was run into by Robyn Regehr. He made big saves, though, on Tomas Hertl, Brent Burns, Raffi Torres, Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture. It was a good response game from Quicks prior two, but not enough as the Kings go down 3 to 0. Antti Niemi, San Jose (4) - He made a big save on Jordan Nolan in the third and great saves on Mike Richards and Marian Gaborik in overtime.
